1. Rijksmuseum

The crown jewel of the Netherlands, this museum houses one of the finest art collections in Europe with Rembrandt’s famous paintings and Vermeer’s The Milkmaid among its collection. You can reach Rijksmuseum by taking the metro to the Museumplein station. The Rijksmuseum is open daily from 9 AM-5 PM. 2. Anne Frank House

For those wanting to learn more about the Jewish history of Amsterdam, this museum is a must-visit. A highlight for many, it was at this very house that Anne penned her famous diary recounting her family’s internment in hiding during World War II. www.annefrank.org

Anne Frank House is located close to the Leidseplein and can be reached by taking Line 53 of the tram all the way to Prinsengracht. Be aware that this museum is closed on Mondays! You can get to Anne Frank House via tram #53.

3. Van Gogh Museum

Looking to learn about contemporary art? Take a trip to the Van Gogh museum’s collection of modern art including the works of Picasso, Cezanne, and Monet. For those interested in learning more about Vincent Van Gogh’s life and his work, there is an entire wing dedicated to the famous artist. Van Gogh Museum is located close to the Rembrandtplein metro station and can be reached by taking tram number 5 or 24 towards Museumplein. You can get to this museum via Tram #24 & #5

4. Jordaan

This neighborhood is a picturesque area filled with fresh flowers in its shop windows and a charming canal. Looking for the perfect place to eat lunch? Stop by at one of the many restaurants located in this area. Jordaan can be reached by taking tram number 4 or 17 to Prinsengracht. Alternatively, you may take metro line 51 to Rokin as well!

5. Vondelpark

This is a perfect park for those who want to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. Vondelpark boasts lush greenery and a long jogging trail. You can get from Vondelpark to the city center by taking tram number 1, 2, 5 or 12 to Leidseplein station. Alternatively, take metro line 51 to Rokin.

6. Dam Square

For those who want to experience the true Amsterdam spirit, spend your day at Dam Square! Here you will find the iconic Royal Palace of Amsterdam and several museums such as the Hermitage Amsterdam. If you’re looking for a place to shop after your day is over, Dam Square is the perfect place to do some window shopping as well. Take tram number 2, 3 or 5 to reach Dam Square. Alternatively, you may take metro line 51 towards Rokin and exit at Stadhouderskade.

7. Royal Palace of Amsterdam

This medieval palace is an iconic landmark in the Netherlands, and it’s also where the Dutch monarch conducts some of his official duties. The Palace is open to the public and you can tour its massive halls and rooms every day from 9 AM to 5 PM. Take tram number 2, 3, or 5 towards Dam Square in order to reach the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. Alternatively, you may want to take metro line 51 towards Rokin to reach Stadhouderskade.

8. Rembrandt House Museum

Famous for its numerous paintings, this museum will give you an idea of how the Dutch Masters lived during the 17th century. This is another must-see in Amsterdam! Rembrandt House Museum is located close to the Leidseplein and can be reached by taking tram number 13 from Amsterdam Central Station or tram number 7 towards Museumplein. Alternatively, you may take metro line 51 to Rokin.

9. Amsterdam zoo and botanical gardens

Take a break from all the walking around that you would normally do at Amsterdam’s historic sites by visiting the zoo and botanical gardens. Both of these places are located close to each other and can be reached via tram number 2 or 5. Alternatively, you may take tram number 24 towards Museumplein to reach the Amsterdam Zoo. You can get to the Amsterdam Botanical Gardens via tram number 5 or 12.

10. Artis: Amsterdam Royal Zoo

Amsterdam is well-known for its world-class zoos, and the Amsterdam Royal Zoo is arguably the best among them. Here you will find a stunning collection of exotic animals from all over the world. After you’re done with the zoo, spend some time relaxing at Artis’ botanical gardens. You can get to both of these places by taking tram number 24 towards Museumplein.
